Frequently asked questions
Everything shoppers ask us most — about the copper tape itself, using it in the garden and workshop, ordering, delivery and returns. Can't find it? Get in touch.
About the copper tape
- What is your copper tape made of?
- It's genuine self-adhesive copper foil tape — solid copper with a peel-off backing and a conductive adhesive. Because it's real copper it conducts electricity, takes solder and deters slugs on contact, which is what makes one roll useful in the garden, the workshop and the craft room alike.
- What widths of copper tape are available?
- The range covers five widths — 5 mm, 10 mm, 20 mm, 24 mm and 50 mm — so you can match the tape to fine stained-glass work, slug barriers or wider shielding jobs. Each width is sold by the roll with live pricing in GBP. Our width guide explains which to pick.
- Is the copper tape self-adhesive?
- Yes. Every roll is self-adhesive copper foil with a peel-off backing, so you apply it straight onto clean, dry surfaces such as pot rims, glass edges or enclosure walls — no separate glue needed.
- Is the adhesive conductive?
- Yes — the adhesive is electrically conductive, so an overlapped or soldered seam carries continuity across the join. That matters for shielding and circuit work, where you want the whole copper surface acting as one connected layer rather than isolated strips.
Using it in the garden
- How does copper tape stop slugs and snails?
- Slugs and snails dislike crossing copper — contact with the metal gives them a tiny, harmless deterrent reaction. A continuous ring around a pot rim, raised bed or greenhouse staging keeps them off your plants without pellets or chemicals. The band must be unbroken and free of leaf bridges to work.
- Which width is best for a slug barrier?
- Wider tape works better because slugs struggle to stretch across a broad band. For pots and raised beds, 24 mm or 50 mm is the most reliable choice; narrow tape suits small containers or doubling up two bands.
- Is it safe around vegetables, pets and wildlife?
- Yes. Copper tape is a physical deterrent rather than a poison, so it's safe to use around edible crops, pets, hedgehogs and pollinators. There are no pellets or chemicals for them to eat or contact.
Crafts, stained glass & electronics
- Can I use it for stained glass?
- Yes — copper foil tape is the heart of the Tiffany method. You wrap each glass edge, burnish the foil flat, then solder over it to join the pieces into a panel or suncatcher. Match the tape width to your glass thickness so a small, even margin folds onto each face.
- Does copper tape work for EMI or RF shielding?
- Yes. It's widely used to line guitar control cavities, enclosures and equipment to cut electromagnetic interference. A continuous, grounded copper lining acts as a Faraday cage, and the conductive adhesive keeps overlapping seams electrically continuous.
- Is it conductive and solderable for electronics?
- Yes. It's solid copper foil, so it conducts along its length and takes solder, suiting conductive tracks, grounding paths, paper circuits and small repairs. For critical joints, solder the connection rather than relying on adhesive alone.
Ordering, delivery & returns
- How are orders, payment and delivery handled?
- You build your basket here, then complete checkout securely on our hosted checkout — no card details are entered or stored on this site. Payment, your order and UK dispatch are all handled for you, and prices are shown in GBP including tax.
- Can I order a small quantity, or place a bulk order?
- You can buy a single roll, or as many as you need — there's no large minimum. For a bigger or trade order, get in touch with the widths and quantities you want and we'll help you plan it.
- Can I return an order?
- Yes — you have 14 days from receiving your order to return unused, re-sellable items if you've changed your mind. You're responsible for return postage, so please email us first. If an item is damaged or faulty we'll replace it free of charge. Full details are on our delivery & returns page.
